Frequently asked questions
What is Dead.Domains?
Dead.Domains is a public graveyard and listing site for abandoned side projects and domains. Founders bury a project for free and get a tombstone page with a screenshot, cause of death and a contact form. Buyers browse the graveyard and message owners directly.
How much does it cost to bury a project?
Burying a project is free. The only paid extra is tombstone hosting: for $4.99 a month or $39.90 a year, the dead domain itself shows its tombstone and contact form. Dead.Domains takes no commission, is not a broker or escrow agent and is not a party to any deal you make with a buyer.
What do I get when I bury a project?
You get a tombstone page with screenshots of your old landing page, the project's years, its cause of death, your epitaph and a haunted obituary. The grave is listed in the public graveyard. With tombstone hosting, you point the domain at it with a CNAME record so anyone who types it in lands on the tombstone.
How do buyers contact the owner of a dead project?
Every grave has a contact form. Messages go straight to the email of whoever buried the project, and the two sides negotiate directly. Any domain transfer, sale or licensing deal happens between buyer and owner, at their own risk.
How is domain ownership verified?
Owners can add a TXT record that Dead.Domains generates to their domain's DNS. Once the record is found, the grave shows a verified checkmark so buyers know the listing was made by whoever controls the domain. Verification is optional.
Can I cancel tombstone hosting or get a refund?
Burying is free, so there is nothing to refund there. Tombstone hosting can be cancelled anytime from the manage page and stays on until the end of the paid period. If you forget to cancel a yearly plan after the free trial, email [email protected] with your grave's domain and we sort it out.
Who runs Dead.Domains?
Dead.Domains is operated by Questly Kft., a company in Budapest, Hungary, and built by its founder Peter Nagy, an indie developer. You can reach the founder at [email protected].
